Shivaji - The Boss
I come across a lot of websites which come up with their own reviews and I have read a lot of them. So here in rediff iLAND I give my review on the most anticipated and awaited film of 2007 Shivaji-The Boss.
The movie which was shot for over 2 years and was made a on a high budget of about 90 crores, costliest film in the history of South India and directed by Shankar, one of the best technicians of our country and acted by none other than our super star RajniKanth. By this time you would have guessed it right. Yes, I am a big time fan of Shankar and Rajnikanth.
By the time I tried for tickets, all the multiplex screens and other major theaters were houseful not only for the weekend but for the entire first week!! So I booked tickets in a theater which is in outskirts of the city, 2 days prior to the release of the film , to watch after 2 days after release of the film ! When the movie is going to be released in another 2 days, I was totally glued to my pc googling about the movie for any latest news. All the major TV Channels gave a lot of publicity for the film and it pumped up my adrenaline more and more.
Finally the movie is released on this friday and I was tensely refreshing the homepage of some of the leading movie websites for the review of the film. I was very disappointed with the reviews which stated the movie as average. Even one of the Shankar's previous film Aparichitudu a.k.a Anniyan had a similar average review by the movie websites but the film went on to become a blockbuster and highest grosser film in South India.I watched it 3 times. So even this time I hoped that the average is not the movie but are the reviews.
So today morning, the 3rd day of the film, I went for the morning show. Though the movie was to be started at 12.15pm which was told at the time of booking, it started at 11.45am. Because of the length of the movie which was over 3 hours, they started it early. Then itself I've decided to watch the movie for the second time as I had sadly missed out the first 10 mins and the superstar's entrance.
Coming to the movie,to be truthful, the movie disappointed me. I expected the shankar's punch with a social message and the logic behind every scene which usually will be present in his films. But this film lacks everything. It has the social message about the black money but not clearly told and there is no logic in most of the scenes in the second half in which hero tries to get all the black money from the richer people and in some way(?) convert it to white and spend it for the benefit of poor people . But it's a treat to the RajniKanth fans who excels in his mannerisms, style, dialogues and crazy antics. There's no shankar's touch to the movie. The hero bashes up the goons many a times and each fight is dragged for about 10 mins. Other things which impressed me is the heroine Shriya, believe me...she is very hot and beautiful and a good performance by vivek(comedian) and suman(one and only villain) and some very fine art work in the songs. AR Rehman's music is not upto the expectations except a couple of songs.
Dont mistake me as a expert reviewer or something of that kind :P I'm just an engineering student wanted to blog something and hence sharing my movie experience of the GREAT movie which I've seen today. That's it.And I think this one is not a piece which I mentioned in my last post.So cutting it long(???) I take leave. Thanks for reading.
